The Research Center for Macroeconomic and Regional Forecasting (PROMAR) was established in early 2007.
The main areas of scientific interest are: macroeconomic forecasting, regional development forecasting, regional economic growth and support-policies for regional convergence and competitiveness, regional labor markets, internal and external migration, investment impact, regional clusters, regional development policies, planning and development, the impact of the use of European funds on regional development etc.
During its operation PROMAR has established collaboration or partnership relations with other research centers of ASE, with research centers of other universities in Romania (eg: Center for European Studies “Jean Monet” – “Al.I.Cuza” University of Iasi), with research institutes within the National Institute of Economic Research of the Romanian Academy (eg: Institute of Economic Forecasting), with the National Institute of Statistics, the National Forecasting Commission, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration, the Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Development Agency etc.
Internationally, cooperation agreements have been established with the Regional Applications Laboratory (REAL) – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA; Department of Economic Geography and Geoinformatics – Wirtschaftsuniversitaet Vienna, Austria; Research Center of Regulatory Science – George Mason University, USA, and others. PROMAR has also been included in the cooperation networks of international projects in which it has held the position of project partner (ASE-PROMAR), together with research centers from over 20 European Union member countries plus Norway, Iceland, Serbia, Albania. .
The members and collaborators of the center were/are involved in carrying out a large number of research projects with national or international funding (Horizon 2020, FP7, ESPON, SEE Transnational Program, CERGE, COST, etc.) assigned to PROMAR.
As a result of the outstanding results obtained in the research activity, one of these projects – “Municipal Property Management in South-Eastern European Cities (PROMISE)” – assigned to PROMAR, received from the International Project Management Association (IPMA): “the Judges Commendation Status and Diploma” within the competition “the IPMA Achievement Award” – category: “Community Service Projects”.
PROMAR was also selected by the Regional Science Association International to be part of a presentation regarding research centers from different countries of the world with sustained concerns in the field of regional sciences. The presentation was disseminated through the RSAI Newsletter.
